Laptop Power Trouble

For the past while when my laptop was plugged in it was finicky on whether or not it would actually be getting power. Finally it ceased to work all together. So I thought maybe it's just the cord that has trouble, though I was worried it would be the internal connection coming loose causing troubles. I tried to test the cord but the multimeter I was trying didn't seem to work. So I found for less than twenty I could get a replacement cord. I figured I might as well give it a try. I ordered it from some company through amazon and although I went with expedited it was taking a while for it to come. So I got impatient and after talking to someone at school who had a similar problem where it had been the connection inside the laptop I decided to try looking at the connection inside. So I blindly started pulling out screws but eventually got stuck. So I went to the all powerful Internet and found a helpful guide telling me where I needed to pry off to get at more screws. Took the whole computer apart to get to the area I wanted to see and there were no noticeable problems. When I started taking it apart I went ahead and ordered a multi tester and had it overnighted but unfortunately it was too late for that day's overnight. But while my computer was still apart I got the tester and started testing. I started testing for voltage at the end of the cord where it connects to the computer and kept not getting anything. I was almost doubting whether my meter worked or if I was putting my leads in the right place. Then finally one of the times I tried a got about three or four volts. I should have gotten fifteen. Well then I decided to hold my leads to the end of the cord in one hand and shake the transformer box in the other. After shaking I had a surprising fifteen volts. So I had found the trouble really was in the cord. I then got to put my computer back together without having changed anything inside.

I kept making mistakes as I put the computer back together. I had replaced over a dozen screws to realize I had used some in the wrong places and had to take it all apart again. Finally I managed to get it all back together missing only one screw. I then figured it would be unlikely the computer would actually work when I tried to start it up at first. After all I could have ruined circuitry or forgotten to plug a cable back in. I tried to jiggle the cord to get it to work and the led would come on to say it was plugged in but then go right back off. So I went and checked the mail. I was happy to find my new cord had come! So I plugged it in and the led came on saying it was plugged in and a second later the battery charging led came on. Success! Well at least in that department. Had I not tried to take the laptop apart I would have no worries left, but at this point in time I didn't know if it would even start up now.

It amazingly enough started up just fine and everything seems to work. Mousepad, check; keyboard, check; cd/dvd player, check; wireless, logged on on it's own and connected me to Internet, check. Thus far haven't come across any problems and am typing this on it. :)
